It may be years before the new internet protocol IPv6 takes over from the current IPv4, but a security researcher is warning that many systems – corporate and personal – are already open to attack through channels that have been enabled on their machines to support IPv6 traffic.

Joe Klein, a security researcher with Command Information, says many organizations and home users have IPv6 enabled on their systems by default but don't know it. They also don't have protection in place to block malicious traffic, since some intrusion detection systems and firewalls aren't set up to monitor IPv6 traffic, presenting an appealing vector through which outsiders can attack their networks undetected.

"Essentially, we have systems that are wide open to a network," says Klein, who is a member of an IPv6 task force and will be speaking about the issue tonight at the HOPE (Hackers on Planet Earth) conference in New York. "It's like having wireless on your network without knowing it."

The internet is moving to IPv6 because IPv4 is running out of addresses. Estimates of when IPv4 addresses will be exhausted have varied. 'Naan Kadavul' nears completion

Zimbabwe's official rate of annual inflation has hit 2.2m%, the country's central bank said today – a 13-fold increase on the last official rate, in February.

While everything is intuitive and pretty zippy, it's still not quite as polished as Apple's version. The web browser shows some terribly rough patches, a crude zoom button stands in for the iPhone's sophisticated "pinch" system. As well, the narrower body trims nearly a half inch off the iPhone's screen size, which really cramps page size. Bharathiraja poured his heart out over the Sakarakatti audio launch and expressed his longing to cast A R Rahman in one of his movies. In his address during the audio launch held yesterday at the Sathyam theatres, Bharathiraja declared that it was a difficult task to meet Rahman, leave alone getting his tunes.

“He’s constantly flying between London, New York, and Paris. Getting his tunes is equivalent to extracting milk from a tigress,” Bharathiraja revealed to the invitees at the launch. “Besides, he is blessed with beautiful and expressive eyes which I would definitely put to use in one of my movies,” he added. Further, addressing Rahman he also reiterated that Rahman would be a part of one of his movies in the near future.

Korotkoff sounds

I dig medical information.I love them like I love pizza(ha ha ha..)!I was watching television sometime back and was endlessly channel-browsing when I came across a quiz programme.The question was 'What are Korotkoff sounds?" It was all Greek and Latin to me,and I was none the wiser about the answer(I actually thought it might be sounds made by insects and went on to ad lib that it was the sound made by crickets on rubbing their legs,when calling for their mates for you-know-what).
The answer happened to be this:when doctors take your blood pressure they place a stethescope on the cuff and listen.They are actually looking for sounds called Korotkoff sounds.

From Wikipedia:"

When the cuff of a sphygmomanometer is placed around a patient's upper arm and inflated to a pressure above the patient's systolic blood pressure, there will similarly be no sound audible. This is because the pressure in the cuff is high enough such that it completely occludes the blood flow. It is similar to a flexible tube or pipe with fluid in it that is being pinched shut.

If the pressure is dropped to a level equal to that of the patient's systolic blood pressure, the first Korotkoff sound will be heard. As the pressure in the cuff is the same as the pressure produced by the heart, some blood will be able to pass through the upper arm when the pressure in the artery rises during systole. This blood flows in spurts as the pressure in the artery rises above the pressure in the cuff and then drops back down, resulting in turbulence that results in audible sound.

As the pressure in the cuff is allowed to fall further, thumping sounds continue to be heard as long as the pressure in the cuff is between the systolic and diastolic pressures, as the arterial pressure keeps on rising above and dropping back below the pressure in the cuff.

Eventually, as the pressure in the cuff drops further, the sounds change in quality, then become muted, then disappear altogether. As the pressure in the cuff drops below the diastolic blood pressure, the cuff no longer provides any restriction to blood flow allowing the blood flow to become smooth again with no turbulence and thus produce no further audible sound."

Sakkarakatti songs absolutely rock! I meant to buy the CD as always but couldn't wait so downloaded the songs last night on torrents(but I'll buy the CD anyway in a day or two);seems the song Taxi Taxi is the current favorite of ARR fans.Surprisingly it didn't impress me very much so I've given that particular number a break for some days.I guess it'll catch fire once I listen to it after a few days.
My current favorite is Nan epodhu pennanen,adopted from Meenaxi's Yeh Rishta Hai.Chinnama Chilakamma impresses just like it's hindi counterpart.The other numbers are typical modern-ARR numbers which are catchy and will prove to be good numbers.All in all,Sakkarakatti is another addition to A R Rahman's long list of super good albums.

I like this song from June R called "Rim Jim" or "Mazhaye Mazhaye".Malayalam music director Sharath has done a good job here,with the song capturing the moment of rainfall in a nice raag.There are two versions of the song,with one sung by Sujatha and the other by Hariharan.I like the latter more;Hariharan has given an extra feel to the song and made it sound more natural.
