Accessing blocked sites

Many times in schools, colleges & offices surfing some sites like orkut,etc are banned !
To overcome this you can unblock these or block some other websites and play pranks !


Do The Following :
For eg you want to block www.xyz.com !

* Open the folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
* There you will find a file named HOSTS
* Click on the file and press SHIFT and now right click on it .
* From the right click menu select Open with .
* Now, select Notepad to open the file from the list !
* Now, in the file under the line 127.0.0.1 localhost add another line as 127.0.0.2 www.xyz.com.
* Now, File>>Save !

Now, open your web browser and try openning www.xyz.com , it will not load !

To unblock sites just do the opposite !

Espionage in Excel

You need: Excel 2000 and DirectX

Do the following :


1. Open a new worksheet in Excel 2000.

2. Select File, Save as Web Page.

3. Select Publish and check the box marked Add interactivity with.

4. Save the file as spy.html. Be sure to note the folder you saved the file in.

5. Load Internet Explorer, and choose File, Open and locate spy.html. The spreadsheet should appear in the middle of the page.

6. Scroll to row 2000, column WC. Select row 2000, and move the tab key until WC is the active column in that row.

7. Hold down Shift-Crtl-Alt and click the Office logo in the upper-left corner of the dialog box.

8. Get ready to play a spy hunter-type game. Use your keyboard to move around and make things happen: The arrow keys let you drive; the space bar will let you fire; "O" lets you drop oil slicks; and "H" will turn on your headlights when it gets dark.

Use your pen drive for additional memory

Windows Vista can use your USB Flash Drive just like your RAM - such a capability is integrated into the OS. Windows XP just can’t use it as additional memory - your flash drive is just a flash drive. Not anymore if you have eBoostr installed. This software program aids XP in using your Flash Drive as a memory device. You might want to give this a try if your computer is hungry on resources and needs some speed boost.

Open drives by double clicking

Computer users have become more aware about the increasing malware so most computers have robust protection against viruses;but some virus attacks,especially serious ones can sustain "injuries" to your PC.For example,a virus attack and the consequent cleaning procedure performed by your antivirus sometimes disables opening drives by double clicking.Instead a search window opens or open with program window appears.The possible solutions to make your drives open by double clicking are:

1.go to start->run.Type regsvr32 /i shell32.dll and hit Enter.You should get a message that says "DllRegisterServer and DllInstall in shell32.dll succeeded".Hit ok and the problem should be solved.

2.most virus attacks leave behind a file called "autorun.inf" which antivirus software do not delete.Find the file on the drives(it'll usually be hidden along with "read only" and "archive" attributes enabled) and delete them.

3.Use a software called "Disk Heal" to make your drive normal again.

Spike MS Office

Microsoft Office is perhaps the software most used for office purposes.I came across a new feature in Microsoft Word called Spike,which allows you to copy and paste sections of text easily.You will be familiar with the usual Cut,Copy and Paste commands which form the very basic level of copying and pasting text,images,etc.And then there's the Office Clipboard which is like the Windows Clipboard running on steroids.And then there's the Spike,which you probably wouldn't have heard of.The spike lets you quickly reorganize snippets of text and graphics. You grab the snippets from different locations in your document, place them one by one on the spike, then use the Insert From Spike command to paste them as a block into your document.

Disabling the Windows Splash screen

I have always wondered what goes on behind the Windows Splash screen at startup.Lol,I used to imagine Windows was doing something sneaky with my data while innocently welcoming me with its logo,during the startup.You can actually disable the splash screen and see the loading process(though its very limited and you won't actually see Windows loading t he drivers and other stuff).To disable the windows splash screen,

Right click on My Computer->Properties.
Click on the Advanced tab.Under Startup and Recovery,click on Settings button.
You'll see an Edit button;click on that.A text file should open up in notepad.The last line will look something like this:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

To this line,append /SOS(a space followed by /SOS).Now the new line should be:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /SOS

Save the text file and close the remaining windows by clicking on OK.You won't get the Splash screen the next time you boot up.To revert to the old settings,simply remove the /SOS switch and save the text file.

Having more than one clock in Windows

There is a provision in Windows that allows you to have more than clock so as to watch the time in more than one time zone.To have two clocks on the desktop,Left-click on the clock, select Change date and time settings, and go to the Additional Clocks tab. You can then enter the display name for the clock(s) and choose its time zone.

Don't take the title literally I'm not going to show how to go back in time.Go to Control Panel and double click on Regional and Language options.Under the Regional Options,click on Customize button.You will find a Time tab;click on that.Here you can customize how your time can be displayed in the System Tray.In the text boxes that contain the AM and PM text,you can actually enter any text you want to.One of the systems in my college library actually had the text "sh*t happens" where the time should have been displayed.Oh the rotten minds these people have... :)

Tile your windows

We always find numerous occasions on which we have to drag and drop files from one window to another.This can get a bit tiresome sometimes,especially if you have a crappy mouse like I do.Or there are instances where you have to look at 2 windows to work on.To do such tasks conveniently,Windows provides you with the option of tiling the windows vertically or horizontally.In order to display two windows side by side on the desktop,click a window's button on the Taskbar. Now,press and hold the Ctrl key and right-click the second window that you want to open, then click Tile Vertically or Tile Horizontally.Job done easily.
